RACE REPORT: Schatz Wins Kings Royal

Donny Schatz had won nearly every big event in sprint car racing entering this season. He claimed his first Knoxville Nationals title last season, and also was a past winner of the Historical Big One, the Gold Cup Race of Champions, the National Open and the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup. The one trophy missing on his mantle was the crown that comes with winning the Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway.

In the last week, Donny Schatz has accomplished what countless drivers spend an entire career trying to do. He began by winning the Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway last Saturday night, earning $50,000 and followed that up with a win in the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway on Wednesday to pocket $30,000.

RACE REPORT: Meyers Wins at Lebanon Valley Speedway

Prior to Sunday, Jason Meyers was never very fond of Lebanon Valley Speedway, even though he had finished sixth or better in two of his last three starts at the high-banked half-mile. His opinion of the track changed drastically on Sunday night, as he led wire-to-wire to win the World of Outlaws 25-lap event that him $10,000.

RACE REPORT: Dollansky I-96 Speedway

Craig Dollansky and his team have gone through a lot of ups and downs this season, but have persevered and worked hard through everything that has come their way.

 

The veteran driver welcomed respected crew chief Mike Woodring to his team at the end of the first East Coast swing of the season for the World of Outlaws and the pair began to quickly mesh. After several near wins, they earned their first victory together on Friday night at I-96 Speedway in Michigan, as the series returned to the half-mile after a one-year hiatus.

RACE REPORT: McCarl Wins Thriller at K-C Raceway

Terry McCarl recently took on the nickname, “TV Terry” after the success he has had during the “SuperClean Summer of Money” on ESPN2, as well as the quick wit and stage presence that he possesses when the tapes are rolling. He won the opening race of the eight-race mini-series last month at Knoxville Raceway, and on Saturday night at K-C Raceway, held off a furious charge from Donny Schatz to earn his second win of the “SuperClean Summer of Money” and second overall win on the season.

Steve Kinser’s birthday is not until Saturday, but he gave himself an early present, on Friday night at Sharon Speedway, winning his second straight World of Outlaws A-Feature event and sixth overall on the season before a capacity crowd at the 3/8-mile track.

RACE REPORT: McMahan Wins at Eldora Speedway

Ever since he began racing sprint cars, there have been three tracks that Paul McMahan has yearned to win at: Eldora Speedway, Knoxville Raceway and Williams Grove Speedway. He won at Williams Grove in 2000, and on Saturday night he checked Eldora off that list, as he won a thrilling battle with Jason Solwold and Dean Jacobs.

Joey Saldana began his sprint car racing career on the short tracks of Indiana, and Kokomo Speedway was one of his frequent stops, since he lived only an hour from the ¼-mile. He first visited the track on a number of occasions as a spectator and then as a competitor.
