Schatz Dominates World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars at Ohsweken

Defending champ continues hot streak, earns his 13th victory of the season

OHSWEKEN, Ontario – July 30, 2013 – Donny Schatz started on the outside pole for the main event on Tuesday night at Ohsweken Speedway, sized up the lead for 11 laps then swept in front and never looked back, crushing the competition for his 13th World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series victory of the season.

For the second consecutive race, Jason Sides started on the pole. He charged out to an early lead until he was slowed by lapped traffic on lap 11, allowing Schatz around him. Schatz then faced traffic himself, coming up on several pairs of cars racing the top and bottom for position, forcing the five-time series champ to navigate three-car battles several times.

Once in front, though, Schatz was nearly untouchable in his STP/Armor All J&J, taking the checkered flag nearly 7 seconds ahead of runner-up Chad Kemenah.

“We just had to figure out where the racetrack was going to be, move around a little bit,” said Schatz, of Fargo, N.D. “We started moving around and found a different line and got rolling and that was really fun. There were lapped cars racing each other and we were able to stick our nose in there and get past them.”

Daryn Pittman Charges to Rolling Wheels Raceway Park Victory

Points leader earns eighth World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series victory of season

ELBRIDGE, N.Y. – July 23, 2013 – Daryn Pittman swept into the lead on a restart just one lap into Tuesday night’s World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series main event at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park and held off Donny Schatz on another restart three laps from the checkers to earn his eighth victory of the season.

Pittman, the championship points leader, was on the inside of row two for the start behind pole-sitter Chad Kemenah and Schatz when he slipped past Schatz and into second when two separate incidents brought out a caution with only one lap complete. On the ensuing double-file restart another caution waved, leaving Chad Kemenah to choose once again which lane would propel him back to the lead.

Kemenah tried the outside lane, but Pittman got a great jump and held his lead as they raced into turn one. Kemenah and Schatz jockeyed for the second spot before Schatz cleared Kemenah exiting turn two on lap nine but the caution flew again, allowing Kemenah to retain his position before he exited the track for an overheating motor that would end his night.

Schatz Scores 12th Victory of the Season at Lebanon Valley Speedway

Champ has won three of past four World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series A-mains

WEST LEBANON, N.Y. – July 21, 2013 – Donny Schatz drove around Joey Saldana on a restart six laps into Sunday night’s feature at Lebanon Valley Speedway then held off Daryn Pittman on a green-white-checkered finish to earn his 12th World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series victory of the season.

Saldana jumped out to the early lead but when Cody Darrah slowed on the front stretch bringing out a caution, it gave Schatz the chance he needed. Schatz darted to the lead on the ensuing restart pulling points-leader Daryn Pittman with him.

Schatz, who won the Silver Cup on Tuesday at Lernerville and the Summer Nationals title on Saturday at Williams Grove, tried to run away to the checkered flag but a late caution for Saldana’s blown tire set up a green-white-checkered finish.

Schatz again jumped out fast in his STP/Armor All J&J and powered around the half-mile oval to the checkered flag for his fifth victory in July and series-leading 12th overall.

Schatz Wins Williams Grove Thriller for 11th Victory of the Season

Now 2-for-2 in World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car action at historic Pennsylvania track

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – July 20, 2013 – Donny Schatz had to work hard to earn his 11th World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series victory of the season and second win this year at Williams Grove Speedway.

Schatz, of Fargo, N.D., led only the final three laps of the 30-lap feature, but for the second consecutive time in World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series action at Williams Grove dating back to May, he was able to find a way past Greg Hodnett and into victory lane in his STP/Armor All J&J.

Lance Dewease started on the pole and jumped out to an early lead, but he could never shake Schatz or fourth-starting Hodnett. The three cars with extremely talented veteran drivers put on a clinic in a battle for the lead with Dewease on the bottom, Schatz a lane up and Hodnett running the top-side of the historic paper-clip half-mile oval.

With Dewease in front on lap 15, Hodnett slipped past Schatz for second and charged after Dewease. Hodnett got the advantage coming off the fourth corner to lead lap 17, then Schatz found a way around Dewease with 8 laps to go in the caution-free race and closed quickly on Hodnett for the lead.

Schatz’s car was gaining speed as the laps counted down, and by lap 26 in traffic Schatz looked to make the move to the front, completing a pass on the backstretch to lead lap 27 then hold off Hodnett to the checkered flag. Schatz’s victory also secured the Morgan Cup trophy for the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series and a $5,000 bonus for Schatz. The Morgan Cup is a sterling silver traveling trophy that resides with the organization represented by the winning driver of the A-main. It marks the third straight year the Morgan Cup has gone to the Outlaws.
