World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Rolling Wheels Raceway Park Race Report

The Donny Schatz Express continued Saturday night at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, New York as the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing (TSR) driver won his third consecutive World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Car Series A-Feature at the 5/8-mile dirt oval and his 31st victory of the 2015 season.

Schatz and TSR’s Bad Boy Buggies/Chevrolet Performance team are in the midst of an incredible season and Saturday night’s triumph tied the team with Steve Kinser’s 1992 campaign for third-most single-season wins in series history. The victory also continued his mastery of the state of New York this season. Schatz has been victorious in each of the Outlaws’ three stops in New York this season – Weedsport Speedway in May, Lebanon Valley Raceway in July and Saturday’s annual stop at Rolling Wheels.

“We’ve had a great season and I’m really proud to be part of such an incredible team,” said Schatz, who clinched his seventh WoO championship last week. “Tony Stewart, Bad Boy Buggies, Chevrolet Performance – they are the ones who make it possible for us to come out here and race. I’m surrounded by great people – Rick Warner, Steve Swenson, and Eric Prutzman – doing an awesome job with the car. They make the decisions. They’re learning things right now and that’s really encouraging for the guy driving it, that’s for sure.”

Saldana Fifth at Rollings Wheels

ELBRIDGE, N.Y. (Oct. 10, 2015) – The race at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park was the lone event on the World of Outlaws schedule this week.

Joey Saldana was the first in a succession of drivers to break the 14-year track record at Rolling Wheels tonight during qualifying. Ultimately Saldana and the Motter Equipment HE&M Saw Beltline Body Shop 71M settled in the No. 7 qualifying spot with a lap of 15.805 seconds. The driver who was credited ultimately with the track record was Paul McMahan logging a 15.461-second lap at 145.527 miles per hour, officially making Rolling Wheels the fastest dirt track in the world and that speed the fastest ever turned by a sprint car at any dirt track. The previous record for the fastest track was 143.209 mph at Volusia Speedway.

Donny Schatz Rolling Wheels Raceway World of Outlaws Advance

INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 9, 2015) – The numbers say it’s official, but the only certainty for Tony Stewart-Curb Agajanian Racing (TSR) driver Donny Schatz is that there are still six opportunities remaining in the 2015 World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Car Series season. Mathematically, Schatz, the driver of the TSR No. 15 Bad Boy Buggies/Chevrolet Performance J&J, has clinched his seventh WoO championship on the strength of the monster season he and his TSR team are having that has included 30 victories in the season’s first 70 races. But the six-time and reigning WoO champion admits that there is still plenty to accomplish before the season celebration can commence.

This weekend, Schatz leads the Outlaw brigade back to Central New York for its annual race at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, New York. The October stop has become a Saturday staple during Super DIRT Week festivities the last six years and Schatz has enjoyed the Outlaws being added to the card. For the first 12 of his 19 seasons with “The Greatest Show on Dirt,” Schatz ventured to the sprawling 5/8-mile dirt oval early in the summer and picked up wins in 2004 and 2006. Since the event has been moved to later in the year, Schatz has finished in the top-two four times, including wins the last two Octobers.

Schatz Clinches WoO Championship, Finishes Second in Open

The sole focus heading into the weekend for Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing (TSR) driver Donny Schatz and the Bad Boy Buggies/Chevrolet Performance team was winning the 53rd annual Champion Oil National Open at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Schatz was looking to add to his incredible 2015 World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Car Series campaign stats in what was originally scheduled to be three nights of racing at the famed half-mile dirt oval. Mother Nature forced the program to be reduced to a single night of action Sunday evening, which mathematically locked up a seventh WoO championship for Schatz.

The driver of the TSR No. 15 Bad Boy Buggies/Chevrolet Performance J&J was informed that he and his team had clinched the championship, contingent upon them signing in prior to qualifying at each of the final six races, but the 19-year WoO veteran was only concerned with the opportunity of capturing a sixth National Open victory. After waiting almost four days to hit the track, Schatz did everything he could in his quest for victory number 31 on the season, but he wasn’t able to catch Stevie Smith during the final laps and finished second for the 16th time this season.

Sides Slowed by Weather and Tricky Track Conditions during National Open

Inside Line Promotions – MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 5, 2015) – The 53rd annual National Open wasn’t a great experience for Jason Sides.

The three-day World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at Williams Grove Speedway was consolidated into a one-day race on Sunday at the half-mile oval thanks to rainy weather all weekend.

“They could have had a really nice track,” he said. “From the time we got there at 1 p.m. on Sunday they were rolling and packing the track. It was already overcast. They continued to beat down on it. They just made it concrete.”

Sides Scores Fourth Top 10 of Season at Eldora Speedway with World of Outlaws

Inside Line Promotions – MARNE, Mich. (Sept. 28, 2015) – Jason Sides picked up his fourth top-10 finish of the season at Eldora Speedway to highlight last weekend with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.

Sides registered a seventh-place finish at the half-mile oval near Rossburg, Ohio, on Friday to kick off a two-race weekend with the Outlaws.

“We had a good run at Eldora,” he said. “We qualified ninth quickest, which started us on the outside of the front row for a heat race. The start was critical there. The polesitter got a better jump. I ran with him for a lap or two and then he pulled away. Shane Stewart and I got to racing after that and I finished third.”

That locked Sides into the main event, which he started on the inside of the seventh row.

Schatz Reaches 30 Outlaw Wins in 2015

Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing (TSR) driver Donny Schatz became only the second driver in World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series (WoO) history to win 30 A-Features in a single season Saturday night at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan. Schatz made a dramatic late-race push in the TSR No. 15 Bad Boy Buggies/Chevrolet Performance J&J to claim the victory by .138 seconds over Daryn Pittman.

“Nothing like leading one corner, but I guess it’s the right corner to lead,” Schatz said following his second consecutive win at Berlin. “Daryn had a good car. He was going through traffic so well but, the last laps there, the track started changing off. My car started getting a little bit better and we kind of expected a little bit of that. I honestly didn’t think we were going to get him. The last couple of laps, I just drove it as hard as I could without trying to get myself in too much trouble. I was hoping we would be able to get him coming off four. We were just kind of locked down around the bottom and were able to get by him. This feels great. It’s a privlegde to drive for Tony Stewart, Bad Boy Buggies and Chevrolet Performance and work with the guys on this team.”

Slick Track Brings Challenges for Motter Team at Berlin Raceway

MARNE, Mich. (Sept. 26, 2015) – The World of Outlaws teams and drivers played to a huge crowd at Berlin Raceway tonight. It was the season finale for dirt track racing activity at Berlin.

In preliminary action, Saldana drove the Motter Equipment HE&M Saw Beltline Body Shop Sprint Car to the No. 12 qualifying position with a 14.828-second lap. In World of Outlaws qualifying to heat race formatting, Saldana earned the pole of the third heat.

When the field went green for the heat, Saldana made contact with a yuke tire (big bulldozer-type tire put around the track to define racing area vs. infield) going into turn two and damaged the front axle. He was unable to make it back out to join the field and had to earn a position in the A Main through participation in the Last Chance Showdown (LCS).
